Mankope ‘May’ Malebye is a BA(Hons) student in Media Studies. She holds a BA degree in International Relations and Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. She loves all things new media such as social networking, blue-ray technology, digitisation within telecommunications, and enjoys testing out relevant technology. She would like to pursue a career as a media strategist so that she can concentrate on resource-efficient ways of operating mainstream and community media in regions across South Africa.
Her other interests include languages, reading, writing, healthy living and politics. Mankope’s favourite films include Avatar, Salt, Cry the Beloved Country, The Colour Purple, Inception, Pride and Prejudice, and There is a Zulu on my Stoep. Her favourite novels are The Zahir by Paulo Coelho, Memoires of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, The Host and Twilight by Stephanie Meyers, and Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Mankope’s mantra is “Die Running”, as she believes that it is better to die doing something one loves than to pursue passionless goals. She describes herself as hardworking, passionate, resourceful, helpful and ambitious, as well as, God fearing.
